Sheriff Jared F. Miller

 

Jared F. Miller is  a fifth-generation native of Wakulla County.  Sheriff Miller was elected Sheriff in November 2016 and took office in January of 2017.

 

He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminology from Florida State University. He graduated as an  Honor Graduate from the Pat Thomas Law Enforcement and Corrections Academy. He also attended the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Chief Executive Seminar Class 44 and the National Institute of Corrections in Longmont, CO.  He currently serves as a Commissioner on the Florida Corrections Accreditation Commission (FCAC) and is a member of the Florida Model Jail Standards Committee (FMJS) and was appointed to the Florida Sheriff's Association Board of Directors.   He served in the United States Army National Guard from 1989 to 2000.  Sheriff Miller is the founder and managing sheriff of the Northstar Multi jurisdictional Drug Task Force.

 

Prior to being Sheriff, he had the distinction of serving the Wakulla County Sheriff's Office for 22 years, which included 13 years as Major over the Corrections Division. Sheriff Miller was the agency's first accreditation manager and was instrumental in the Sheriff's Office achieving FCAC accreditation in October 2002. 

 

Sheriff Miller is involved in numerous community and civic organizations.  He serves on the Big Bend Hospice Board of Directors; Florida Wild mammal Association Board of Directors; Wakulla Rotary International Club; Wakulla County School District Planning Advisory Committee; Goodwill of the Big Bend Board of Directors; Wakulla Diamond Club; Wakulla Gridiron; Wakulla Public Safety Coordinating Council; Wakulla Academic Boosters and past member of Keiser University School of Criminal Justice Committee; The Salvation Army of Tallahassee Advising Board; Wakulla 4-H Advisory Council.  Sheriff Miller is also an active member of the Florida Sheriff's Association (FSA) and the National Sheriff's Association (NSA).
