Corrections

The Wakulla County Detention Facility is largest division within the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office.  Its functions and programs are related to the care, custody, and control of individuals incarcerated.  The Detention Facility was constructed in 1991 with a rated capacity of 139 inmates.  In 2004, an additional wing was constructed to house approximately 200 inmates for a total rated capacity of 350.  The facility is divided into two sections: one for local inmates and one for immigration detainees.

The Wakulla County Detention Facility staff consists of 60 members under the command of Captain Scott Taff, Facility Administrator.

Medical Services are provided by contract with Genesys Health Alliance and Food Services are provided by contract with Trinity.

The Wakulla County Detention Facility was initially accredited by the Florida Corrections Accreditation Commission in October 2002, and awarded reaccreditation in August 2005, October 2008, September 2011, and October of 2014.  In October 2017 and 2020 the facility was awarded excelsior reaccreditation.

The Wakulla County Detention Facility's housing and security meets the daily needs of inmates and detainees by providing a vast amount of programs.  Our goal is to keep inmates productive while decreasing the tax burden to the community.
