The Human Resource Division plays a vital role in the agency. The main goal is to provide the necessary assistance to approximately 150 employees and 65 volunteers as well as provide service to the general public.
One of the most important roles of HR is the recruitment and selection process for new hires. We are committed to our community and we strive to hire only those who share our goal of providing the best possible service to the citizens of Wakulla County. We receive and processes employment and volunteer applications on a daily basis for all positions. The application process includes a complete and thorough background investigation.
HR supervises the maintenance of personnel and medical records for all employees and volunteers, updates and maintains training records including in-service training along with all certified mandatory training to insure all sworn personnel uphold their certification, manages all group health, Dental and life insurance benefits, administers the Florida Division of Retirement benefit, oversees FDLE registration compliance, and provides employee support wherever it may be needed.
Additionally, HR is responsible for overseeing transfers and coordinating the promotional process within the agency, advising supervisors and staff on agency policies, disciplinary matters, and various labor laws such as the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), Workers Compensation rules and laws, the Americans with Disability Act (ADA), Equal Employment Opportunity Act (EEOP), and the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) along with other leave entitlements.
Other responsibilities include Livescan fingerprinting for WCSO employees, concealed weapons permits as well as other state agencies requiring background screening for employees and volunteers, issuing employee and volunteer identification cards and sworn officer credentials, printing agency business cards, responding to public records requests, and conducting exit interviews. In addition to many other duties, the HR Division recognizes employee birthdays and employment anniversary dates and encourages good employer/employee relationships and strives to promote morale within the agency through family activities and events.
