On February 5, 2019, Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division (CID) of the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office (SO) executed a search warrant at the residence of Christopher Earnest, 67 Basswood Drive, Crawfordville, Florida, in furtherance of a child welfare investigation. Following the search warrant execution, Detectives arrested Mr. Earnest, 37 years of age, for multiple charges.
In this instance, CID Detectives received a report that Christopher Earnest sold and drugs in the presence of minors for which he had custodial responsibilities. Detectives obtained a search warrant for Mr. Earnest’s residence, which was executed on February 5, 2019. When the search warrant was executed, the residence was unoccupied. During the search of Mr. Earnest’s bedroom, Detectives located suspected Marijuana prepackaged for sale and suspected Cocaine, which were located on top of a digital scale directly next to U.S. currency. Detectives also located a ledger consistent with keeping track of firearm and drug transactions, with notations of money transferred for “Green” and a firearm. Three firearms were located within approximately two to five feet of the suspected Cocaine, suspected Marijuana and ledger. Detectives also discovered a firearm located in a back bedroom closet surrounded by children’s clothing and toys. The firearm was unsecured and loaded within direct reach of any child who may have entered the room. Detectives searched a shed located in the front yard and located suspected Marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Detectives also searched vehicles in the yard parked next to the residence. A firearm and an envelope containing U.S. currency were found in one of the vehicles.
During the entirety of the search warrant execution, Detectives seized a total of 84 grams of suspected Marijuana; one gram of suspected Cocaine; $1,730 U.S. currency; and the following firearms: Henry Repeating Lever Action Rifle; Ruger 22 Caliber Rifle; Mossberg 22 Caliber Rifle; Sig Arms 9MM Pistol; H&R 32 Caliber Revolver; Mossberg 12 Gauge Shotgun Lower Receiver; Winchester 30-06 w/scope; Winchester 30-30 Lever Action Rifle; Taurus 38 Caliber Revolver; Arsenal 7.62MM Rifle w/Pistol Grip; WWII Era Bolt Action Rifle; Stag Arms 5.56MM AR15 w/Nikon Scope; Iver Johnson 22 Caliber Revolver; Stevens Arms Double Barrel 12 Gauge Shotgun; Savage Rifle w/Scope; Winchester 12 Gauge Shotgun; and Sig Sauer AR15 w/Scope.
Following the search warrant execution, Detectives telephoned Christopher Earnest and invited him to the CID office. Detectives subsequently arrested Mr. Earnest and charged him with Child Neglect/Endangerment (Weapon Offence); Engage in Criminal Activity with Weapon Present; Possession of a Controlled Substance; Possession with the Intent to Sell; Narcotics Equipment Possession; and Public Order Crimes Public Nuisance Structure for Drug Activity. Mr. Earnest was booked into the Wakulla County Jail.
