SHERIFF'S REPORT 3-25
Wakulla County Sheriff's Office officials are investigating a grand theft reported by Sharlyne O. Miller of Crawfordiville on March 18, according to Sheriff David Harvey. The victim reported the theft of $1,009 worth of property from her home. The property included camping equipment, furniture, household goods and tools. Miller reported that she has had theft issues with her property before. Deputy James Plouffe investigated.
In other activity reported by the Wakulla County Sheriff's Office during the past week:
- On March 19, Gary R. Harris of Crawfordville reported a grand theft of a trailer, valued at $1,000. The trailer had been loaned to a friend and never returned. A suspect has been identified in another state. Det. John Zarate investigated.
- On March 19, Kenny F. Day of Tallahassee reported credit card offenses and fraud. The victim reported fraudulent charges of $2,588 over a three day period. The charges appeared to have been made in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The fraud was committed through a Crawfordville bank account. Deputy Ward Kromer investigated.
- On March 20, Deputy Lindsay Allen recovered property near the Newport boat ramp that belonged to Walter G. Perry of Tallahassee. The deputy found clothing, a wallet and credit cards, valued at $45. Deputy Allen attempted to reach the victim by telephone, but was unsuccessful. The property has been stored at the sheriff's office.
- On March 21, Mitchell Randolph Swain, 44, of Perry was charged with driving while license suspended or revoked-habitual offender following a traffic stop. Deputy Jeremy Johnston stopped Swain for a broken tail light. Swain could not produce a driver license and had an active warrant out of Leon County for DWLSR.
- On March 25, David Michael Hobbs, 37, of Buford, Ga. was charged with knowingly operating a vehicle while his driver license was suspended or revoked and possession of narcotic equipment following a traffic stop. Three marijuana pipes and a small amount of marijuana were discovered in the vehicle. Deputy Ben Steinle investigated.
- On March 24, Rhonda Kay Johnson, 48, of Panacea was charged with retail theft at the Dollar General Store in Panacea. Approximately $14 worth of merchandise was discovered in the suspect's purse. During a search of Johnson's handbag, a marijuana pipe was also discovered and she was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Deputy Ward Kromer investigated.
- On March 24, Kerry Maureen Campbell, 48, of Tallahassee was charged with reckless driving, fraud and grand theft following a traffic stop. Deputy Ryan Muse had to take evasive action when a vehicle came down the middle of the highway without lights on. Sgt. Danny Harrell and FHP Trooper Brian Speigner secured the vehicle. Campbell was in no condition to drive and officials took her into protective custody. During the investigation, a Leon County victim was identified who said she was missing a credit card and bank check. A computer was recovered in the stopped vehicle. Campbell was charged for allegedly using the stolen credit card to purchase the computer at a large retailer. Leon County Sheriff's Office officials are also investigating.
- On March 22, a structure fire was reported in Panacea at a home owned by Suzanne L. Brannan of Carrabelle. The fire was contained and may have started as a result of a discarded cigarette. Damage to the home is estimated at $3,000. Deputy Andrew Vass investigated.
- On March 21, Randall M. Rice of Sopchoppy reported a possible burglary at the Backwoods Bistro. Someone attempted to entered the establishment. Officials are also investigating whether the business phone had been used to make a telephone call when the bistro was closed. Deputy Pam Veltkamp investigated.
- On March 20, Steven R. Pinson of Panacea reported a criminal mischief to his vehicle. The victim's windshield was damaged. Damage was estimated at $200. A suspect has been identified. Deputy Jason Brooks investigated.
The Wakulla County Sheriff's Office received 692 calls for service during the past week.
