Work crew fills free sand bags  E-mail

Detention Work Release Lt. Bobby Tully hopes we never have to use them, but if we need them they are ready. A group of work campers and work crew members created a sandbag line over the weekend and filled 1,000 sandbags for use by county residents.

The sandbags were filled using the “state of the art” WCSO invention “clipped cone sand filler.” One end of the crew drops sand into the upside down cone which is held in place by a make-shift table. Another portion of the crew holds the empty bags below the cone to catch the sand. The top of the cone is cut to allow the passage of sand into the bag.

Image The ingenuity helps workers fill their sandbags quickly for whatever use they may have. Deputy Leif Sparby had a crew of workers at his disposal and created the sandbags over the weekend during the second month of the 2010 hurricane season.

Lt. Tully said he hoped the sandbags were not needed, but they are free and ready to be picked up if anyone needs them to battle rising water.
