The Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office has implemented a new telephone system which has made the office one of the newer telephone accounts in Wakulla County to use the new 745 exchange.

The changeover from the old antiquated and partial analog system to the new digital system took place earlier this week. The upgrade was to a new Voice Over Internet Protocol (I.P.) or VoIP as it is known in the communications industry.

The main number at the sheriff’s office is (850) 745-7100 although the old telephone number will still connect in as well. Soon the old telephone numbers will be disconnected, but when the old numbers are called directly an automated message will tell the caller what the new number is.

The new phone system will give sheriff’s office employees much more functionality than the existing telephone system.
