Sheriff's Report - June 11, 2009  E-mail

Wakulla County Sheriff's Office investigators received a burglary
complaint from Harold R. Mardenborough of Tallahassee June 4 regarding an
incident in St. Marks, according to Sheriff David Harvey.

The victim told law enforcement he lost $700 worth of fishing equipment
from Shields Marina. A forced entry was reported at the storage area. Lt.
Pat Smith investigated.

In other activity reported by the Wakulla County Sheriff's Office during
the past week:

• On June 4, Thomasine T. Carden of Crawfordville reported the theft of a
cell phone. The phone was left in a relative's vehicle. The phone had been
used by an unknown suspect who downloaded $29 worth of ring tones. The
phone is valued at $200. Deputy Vicki Mitchell investigated.
• On June 4, Earl H. Mulkey of Crawfordville reported an attempted
burglary at his home. A window was discovered broken, but no entry was
made into the home. Damage was estimated at $450. Deputy Ryan Muse
investigated.
• On June 4, Shirley D. Taylor of Panacea reported a criminal mischief as
someone broke a window at her rental property. Damage was estimated at
$150. Deputy Nick Petowsky investigated.
• On June 4, Shelle Cooper Guastella, 49, of St. Marks was charged with
battery in connection with a dispute with a 58-year-old St. Marks victim.
Guastella allegedly took a bite out of the victim's arm and refused to
cooperate with investigators Deputy Ryan Muse and Deputy Matt Helms. She
was taken to the Wakulla County Jail after finally coming out of a locked
room at her home.
• On June 2, Richard L. Westberry of Crawfordville reported a burglary of
a power tool, valued at $90. The property was stolen from a shed. Deputy
Ben Steinle investigated.
• On June 2, John R. Morgan of Crawfordville reported the grand theft of a
four wheeler from his home. While investigating an unrelated case, Deputy
Jason Brooks discovered a suspect. A 16-year-old Crawfordville juvenile
was charged in the case and the four wheeler was recovered.
• On June 3, Laura N. Smith of Crawfordville reported the theft of a
wallet from a local bar. Deputy Ryan Muse investigated.
• On June 3, Richard F. Gowdy of Crawfordville reported a theft from his
checking account. The charge was $79 and a product arrived at Gowdy's home
that he had not ordered. Deputy Vicki Mitchell investigated.
• On June 3, Karen M. Sasnett of Crawfordville reported a fraud as someone
withdrew funds from her checking account. The bogus charges were for $69
and $39. Lt. Pat Smith investigated.
• On June 3, Mitchell E. Hampton of Crawfordville reported an attempted
burglary at his rental property. A forced entry was discovered A suspect
has been identified. Deputy Ruel Raker investigated.
• On June 2, Mary M. Spillers of Crawfordville reported a possible fraud.
An agent managing rental property for the victim is a suspect in a case
where the manager allegedly took funds from the victim.
The victim's family stopped a foreclosure by catching up on money owned at
the property. The victim's signature for a portable building may also have
been forged. Lt. Ray Johnson investigated.
• On June 7, Lisa C. Saavedra of Crawfordville reported a criminal
mischief at Mack's Meats. A business message sign was damaged as two
flourescent bulbs were broken. Damage was estimated at $200. Deputy Brad
Taylor investigated.
• On June 5, John P. Willis of Leesburg, Ga. reported a vehicle burglary
in Crawfordville. A GPS unit and cigarettes, valued at $290, were removed
from the victim's truck. The GPS was entered into the NCIC/FCIC computer.
Deputy Brad Taylor investigated.
• On June 5, Jeremy T. McDow of Crawfordville reported a vehicle burglary.
A radio, valued at $150, was removed from the vehicle. Deputy Brad Taylor
investigated.
• On June 5, Jeanette L. Sandoval of Crawfordville reported a vehicle
burglary as a satellite radio and sunglasses were removed from her car.
The stolen property was valued at $250. Deputy Nicholas Gray investigated.
• On June 6, Bonnie M. Skeens of Crawfordville reported a grand theft as
someone stole a motorcycle and four wheeler from her home. The vehicles
were valued at $3,500. Deputy Brad Taylor investigated and followed the
tracks to a location where the two vehicles were ultimately abandoned.
Both items were returned to the victim.
• On June 6, Brian Keith Jones, 39, of the Wakulla County Jail was charged
with introducing contraband into the correctional facility. Jones was
found to be in possession of smoking tobacco and rolling papers. He had
been spotted with a small group of inmates by a correctional officer who
investigated. She smelled tobacco on the inmates and questioned them.

The Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office received 770 calls for service
during the past week.
