On Feb. 17, Howard W. Kessler of Panacea reported a loud gunshot near his home. Deputy Nick Boutwell recovered a shotgun shell. There were no injuries or damage. On Feb. 17, WHS Assistant Principal Randy Barnes reported the discovery of marijuana on the lunchroom floor. The marijuana weighed 2.6 grams unpackaged. The evidence was collected to be destroyed. Lt. Ray Johnson investigated. On Feb. 17, Deputy Wil Raker investigated a suspicious vehicle near the Wakulla County Courthouse. Deputy William Hudson joined the investigation and a “bong” was located in the vehicle. A bag with less than 20 grams of cannabis was discovered nearby. Due to none of the four individuals in the vehicle admitting ownership of the bong and cannabis all four individuals were issued a notice to appear in court. The suspects included: Maggie L. Ogden, 18 of Crawfordville, Benaias Rivera, Jr., 19, of Crawfordville, Michael D. Thompson, 19, of Crawfordville and Kendrick M. Hall, 20, of Crawfordville. On Feb. 16, Det. Lindsay Allen investigated a complaint of a sexual offender not living at his registered address. Floyd Hayward Pettis was registered at a Crawfordville address, but was reported to be in North Carolina. Investigation determined that Pettis had moved to another Crawfordville residence before leaving the county. Det. Allen requested a warrant for Pettis for failure to comply with sex offender requirements. On Feb. 18, Deputy Scott Rojas investigated a report of a Riversprings Middle School student sending naked pictures to a male student. The deputy contacted the parents of the 13-year-old female. On Feb. 16, William Edward Mills, 63, of Crawfordville was involved in a vehicle accident with a produce truck that was driven by Lonnie McMillon of Quincy at U.S. Highway 98 and Hideaway Lane. Investigators determined that Mills crossed the centerline and struck the produce truck. He was taken to a Tallahassee hospital where he was treated and released. Mills was charged with DUI and careless driving. The produce truck was empty at the time of the accident, but it suffered $7,000 worth of damage. The Mills pickup truck came to rest against a tree nearby. It was totaled. Deputy Ryan Muse, Lt. C.L. Morrison and Captain Cliff Carroll investigated. On Feb. 14, Shannon L. Avery of Crawfordville reported a structure fire at a mobile home. The sheriff’s office is attempting to make contact with the property owner. A realtor informed Det. Erica Fore that vagrants have been trespassing and starting fires. The case is being investigated as arson. Deputy Michael Lawhon investigated. On Feb. 16, Patricia Lyons of Sweet Magnolia in St. Marks reported a criminal mischief. Vandalism and the theft of property were reported. The stolen items are valued at $770 and damage was estimated at $500. A suspect has been identified. Deputies Wil Raker and Jerry Morgan investigated. Activity during the week included: 18 alarm responses, eight civil processes served, 14 disturbances, 16 faulty equipment stops, 10 medical assistances, 111 service assistance, 14 speeders, 59 traffic offenses, 13 abandoned vehicles and 276 watch orders for extra patrol.
