SHERIFF’S LOG Feb. 26 to March 4

A 14-year-old Crawfordville juvenile was charged with improper exhibition of a weapon and disrupting a school function at 9:22 a.m. Tuesday, March 2 after allegedly placing a knife near the neck of a 16-year-old female student on a Wakulla High School school bus.
School Resource Officer Lt. Ray Johnson and Assistant Principal Randy Barnes questioned the student who admitted possessing the knife in his book bag.
The student told investigators that he was playing a prank on his friend. Brass knuckles were also discovered in the pocket of the juvenile’s pants.
Witnesses on the bus confirmed the statement of the victim and Lt. Johnson also reviewed bus video of the incident.
The juvenile was taken to the Wakulla County Jail but did not qualify to be taken to the Juvenile Detention Center in Tallahassee. He was released to his parents.
On March 1, Lt. C.L. Morrison investigated a report of a suspicious envelope at the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge. A refuge employee reported something suspicious on a $5 bill at the entry fee collection site.
Further investigation determined that there was no contaminant in the envelope. St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge Officer Larry Anderson also investigated.
On March 2, Mark L. Straubinger of Tallahassee reported a grand theft at a Crawfordville home that is managed by Hartung and Noblin, Inc. Realtors. An exterior air conditioning unit, valued at $1,200, was removed from the residence. Copper tubing was also cut and removed. Deputy Ward Kromer investigated.
On March 1, Jeffrey A. Blount of Sopchoppy reported a fraud. The victim attempted to purchase a motorcycle over the Internet. The motorcycle never arrived at his home and his monetary loss was $1,550. Deputy Josh Langston investigated.
On Feb. 28, Dennis S. Hall of Pioneer Baptist Church reported a burglary as the church safe was stolen. The total loss of the safe and contents was $1,150. Deputy Derek Lawhon turned the case over to Criminal Investigations.
On Feb. 26, Dennis R. Letts of Crawfordville reported the theft of money from his bank account. The victim discovered three of his checks missing. Security footage helped identify the victim’s roommates as suspects.
Steven Everett Cmehil, 31, of Crawfordville and Bobby Gene Hodge, 55, of Wakulla Station were charged with grand theft, petit theft and forgery and uttering. Deputy Evelyn Brown investigated.
On March 1, Ralph E. Brown of Crawfordville reported a trespass case and had two suspects detained on his property while waiting law enforcement assistance. The victim found Sheldon Harper, 21, of Crawfordville, and Casey Ryan McCullers, 30, of Crawfordville allegedly removing copper wire from the site.
McCullers was charged with four counts of theft of copper wire from a utility service provider that caused damage to the provider’s facilities, criminal mischief and possession of burglary tools.

On Feb. 26, Daniel L. McNeely of Crawfordville reported a grand theft of tools, brass plumbing pieces, copper tubing and a radiator, valued at $430. Deputy Evelyn Brown investigated.
On Feb. 28, Crystal F. Chadwell of Panacea reported a counterfeit $100 bill while at Wal-Mart. Chadwell attempted to cash the bill at the store. She informed Deputy Charles Porter where she received the bill. The counterfeit bill was seized as evidence.
On March 2, Douglas W. Campbell of Crawfordville reported a burglary at his sailboat at a Panacea marina. The victim reported a forced entry and the theft of $1,164 worth of fishing equipment, GPS, diving gear, a radio and flashlights. Deputy Wil Raker investigated.
On March 3,  Paul A. Hodges of Crawfordville reported a structure fire in Crawfordville. The origin of the fire is still under investigation. Damage to the mobile home is listed at $10,000. It was uninsured. Deputy Derek Lawhon investigated along with the Wakulla County Fire Department.

During the time period, the WCSO responded to 16 business and residential alarms along with 257 calls that did not require any disposition. The traffic unit completed 20 faulty equipment stops and the WCSO assisted 18 medical cases. There were 73 service assists for legal advice and 57 service assists to motorists. Twenty-seven speeding cases were handled and 15 suspicious activities. There were 55 traffic offenses and 13 abandoned vehicles. Twenty-three warrants were served and 255 extra patrols were requested. The grand total of calls was 954.
