Law enforcement responds to bomb threat at Sopchoppy School, nothing found |

The Wakulla County Sheriff's Office responded to a bomb threat at the Sopchoppy Education Center on Friday, Feb. 19 at 10:54 a.m. A 16-year-old juvenile student told school officials he had planted a bomb at the school, according to Sheriff David Harvey.One hundred Pre-K students and 35 Second Chance students as well as educators and staff were evacuated by bus to Wakulla High School while law enforcement officials closed off the area and conducted a search of the school and the surrounding area. The Leon County Bomb Squad and a K-9 unit searched the area, but did not locate any explosives.The juvenile faces two felony charges of disruption of a school function or event and making a false threat of a bomb or explosive. He was taken to the county jail for booking."Principal Dr. Tom Askins and his staff did a great job following school protocol to the letter," said the sheriff. The case was concluded at 1:45 p.m.
