Sheriff Jared Miller has released the following information regarding the completion of a burglary and grand theft investigation and the arrest of the suspects involved:
On May 29, 2017, Chuck and Connie Harrell of Crawfordville contacted the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office and reported that while away from the area May 24 – 29, 2017, their residence was burglarized, ransacked, and multiple items were stolen including multiple long guns, a handgun, ammunition, a large amount of jewelry, and their 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The estimated value of the items stolen was $10,000. A patrol deputy took the initial report, the crime scene was processed by a Crime Scene Technician, and Detectives from the Property Crimes Section of the Criminal Investigations Division (CID) were assigned the investigation.
On May 30, 2017, while on an unrelated call, patrol deputies located what they believed to be stolen property at a residence and contacted CID Detectives. CID Detectives and a Crime Scene Technician responded to the scene, and with the assistance of patrol deputies, positively identified the items as being part of the property stolen during the referenced burglary. The recovered items included women’s jewelry, four long guns, ammunition, and a roll of address labels bearing the name of one of the burglary victims. Two subjects located at the residence where the property was recovered were Ashley Kaye Cardin and Casey Brandon Martina. CID Detectives subsequently interrogated Ashley Cardin and Casey Martina and both admitted to their involvement in the burglary. Ashley Cardin and Casey Martina were arrested and booked into the Wakulla County Jail.
Through surveillance, other investigative methods, and data mining techniques, two additional co-conspirators in the burglary were identified, as well as the whereabouts of the stolen 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer. On May 31, 2017, CID Detectives executed a search warrant at a residence in Medart, where the stolen 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer was located and recovered.
On June 1, 2017, CID Detectives located and interrogated one of the additional burglary co-conspirators, Rachel Marie Hutto, in the Leon County Jail. Rachel Hutto admitted to her participation in the burglary. CID Detectives have obtained an arrest warrant for Rachel Hutto which will be executed upon the disposition of her charges in Leon County.
On June 6, 2017, CID Detectives located the second of the additional burglary co-conspirators, Scott Edward Miller, and subsequently interrogated him at the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office. Scott Miller admitted to his participation in the burglary. Scott Miller was arrested and booked into the Wakulla County Jail.
Casey Martina, Ashley Cardin, Rachel Hutto and Scott Miller are all facing charges of Armed Burglary, Grand Theft, Grand Theft of a Firearm, Motor Vehicle Theft, and Criminal Mischief.
On June 7, 2017, Sheriff Jared F. Miller, Detective Richard Moon, Detective Brett Surace, Crime Scene Technician Rich English and Property/Evidence Custodian Jeff Grimm had the pleasure of returning recovered stolen property back to the victims Chuck and Connie Harrell.
