WCSO HURRICANE MICHAEL 8 PM UPDATE
As of 8 PM a Mandatory Evacuation Order is in effect for all coastal and low lying areas this includes Zone A (red zone) on the attached Evacuation Map.
We are encouraging evacuees to find shelter outside of the forecast cone (also pictured below) but if you are unable to do this the following shelters will be open at noon tomorrow in Leon County: Chiles High School, Lincoln High School, Godby High School, Sail High School, and Florida High which is also a special needs shelter.
All residents should monitor conditions and take appropriate steps to protect life and property. At this time, based on the current projected path and strength of Hurricane Michael, we are currently expecting landfall within the next 48 hours as a Major hurricane of Category 3 with wind speeds of up to 115 mph.
Again We have issued a Mandatory Evacuation order for Zone A and Mobile Homes and other weak structures in the remainder of Wakulla County. Zones B and C are under a voluntary evacuation order. The evacuation order started at 8 pm this evening. Citizens that are evacuating should evacuate to an area outside of the storm’s path. Neighboring counties will also be in the storm’s path and will be at risk.
There will be no shelters open in Wakulla County at this time.
Current Storm surge levels are projected to be 8 to 12 feet, as a reference Dennis was about 10 feet. Sandbags are available at the Sheriff’s office with a limit of 10 Sandbags per trip. This storm has the potential to be a historic storm please take heed. Citizens should monitor media outlets for additional information and any changes of the storms track.
