On February 20, 2019, Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division (CID) of the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office (SO) arrested four subjects for committing an armed home invasion at a Crawfordville residence on February 5, 2019, shooting into the front door, pistol whipping an occupant, and stealing items from within the home. CID Detectives also executed a search warrant that same date and recovered the firearms utilized during the home invasion, as well as a wig and bandannas used as disguises by the assailants during the home invasion.
On February 5, 2019, after 10:00 p.m., four armed assailants conducted a home invasion wherein they shot five shots into the front door of a Crawfordville residence with a .40 caliber handgun, kicked in the front door, pistol whipped an adult female occupant of the home, and stole items from within the home. The other adult occupant of the home called the Wakulla County SO with a cellular telephone while hiding. Deputy Sheriff’s from the Patrol Division responded, but the assailants had departed prior to their arrival. CID Detectives and a CID Crime Scene Technician responded to the scene and the investigation was assigned to CID Detectives.
CID Detectives determined that the residence had been occupied by two adult females and a child at the time of the home invasion. When the door was shot through and kicked in, the two adult females were in the master bedroom and the child was in the child’s room. Detectives noted five spent handgun shell casings on the front porch and bullet holes in the front door. CID Detectives also located a bandanna and a glove on the driveway. One of the adult female occupants of the residence had a laceration on her forehead. The female stated that she and another female had been in the master bedroom when they heard multiple gun shots. A female assailant then entered the front door, entered the master bedroom, ordered her to the ground, grabbed her and began to hit her in the head and face with the handgun, while asking where the money was located. While striking her with the handgun, the female assailant broke a candle with the handgun and wax was strewn about. The assailant asked the victim several times where the other female occupant of the resident was, and asked the female if she wanted the assailant to shoot her. The female victim stated a male subsequently entered the bedroom and yelled “let’s go.” The victim stated the female assailant pressed the firearm firmly to her head, got off the floor and kicked her in the face prior to exiting the residence.
Wakulla SO CID Detectives tenaciously followed up on multiple investigative leads. CID Detectives determined that Alexus Shanneal Horttor, Tristen Clifton Wiggins, Rawn Ricardo Brooks, and a male juvenile had committed the home invasion.
On February 20, 2019, CID Detectives located Rawn Brooks and Tristen Wiggins sitting in a car in the parking lot of Azalea Park; and located Alexus Hortter at her place of employment. CID Detectives took all of them into custody, and transported them to the CID Office. CID Detectives coordinated with a School Resource Officer (SRO) and the SRO took the male juvenile into custody at his school and transported him to the CID Office. CID Detectives interrogated the four of them and determined that on the day of the home invasion, they traveled in two vehicles to an area near the victims’ home. They parked one vehicle there, and all got into a single vehicle and traveled to the residence. Tristen Wiggins was wearing a wig and the others were wearing bandanas over their faces. Upon arrival at the residence, the male juvenile shot into the front door with a .40 caliber handgun. They then kicked in the front door and entered the residence. Alexus Hortter went to the master bedroom and pistol whipped the female victim, while Tristen Wiggins, Rawn Brooks, and the male juvenile went to the other side of the residence. At least one of the male assailants entered the child’s bedroom, but did not harm the child. They stole items from the home and the male juvenile entered the master bedroom and told Alexus Hortter to stop.
During the interrogations, CID Detectives developed probable cause to believe that the firearms, wig and bandannas used during the home invasion were stored at the residence of Alexus Hortter and the male juvenile, located at 571 Otter Creek Road, Sopchoppy, Florida. CID Detectives obtained and executed a search warrant at the residence that same date. During the search, CID Detectives located the .45 caliber handgun utilized by Alexus Hortter to pistol whip the victim. The handgun still had wax and what appeared to be blood on the handgun. CID Detectives also located the .40 caliber handgun used by the male juvenile to shoot the front door during the home invasion. A wig and bandannas were also recovered and seized.
