Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Management SITREP #2 for Tropical Storm Nate
The Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Management Division is continuing to monitor Tropical Storm Nate as the probable forecast track has moved to the west. The storm is forecast to gain speed as it emerges from the Yucatan Peninsula into the Gulf of Mexico in the early hours of Saturday morning. The current forecast has Wakulla County well outside the wind swath of the hurricane.… As always the forecast can change and we will continue to monitor the storm as each forecast comes out.
The fast moving storm will take just a day to move across the Gulf of Mexico which will give it little time to build before making landfall. Even though the track is now placing the storm in Louisiana we have to remember that the storm is still small at this time and tracking models have a hard time predicting paths on systems when they are still weak.
Emergency Management will still be monitoring this storm through its entirety in case the forecast cone changes to a more easterly direction.
