Wakulla County, Florida
Wakulla County Sheriff Jared F. Miller took office in January 2017 after having served with the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office for 22 years, including 13 years as Major over the Corrections Division. Sheriff Miller was the WCSO’s first accreditation manager and was instrumental in the WCSO achieving FCAC accreditation in October 2002. He currently serves as a Commissioner on the Florida Corrections Accreditation Commission and is a member of the Florida Model Jail Standards Committee.
Sheriff Miller attended the National Institute of Corrections in Longmont, CO, and is an honor graduate of the Pat Thomas Law Enforcement and Corrections Academy. He has a bachelor’s degree in criminology and criminal justice from Florida State University and is a graduate of FDLE’s Chief Executive Seminar Class 44.
A fifth-generation native of Wakulla County, he has served in numerous community organizations including the Big Bend Hospice Board of Directors; Florida Wild mammal Association Board of Directors; the Wakulla Rotary International Club; Wakulla County School District Planning Advisory Committee; Goodwill of the Big Bend Board of Directors; Wakulla Diamond Club; Wakulla Gridiron; Wakulla Public Safety Coordinating Council; Wakulla Academic Boosters; past member, Keiser University School Criminal Justice Committee. He served in the Army National Guard from 1989 to 1999.
