During the early morning hours of May 19, 2018, a 911 call was made reporting a shooting in the wooded area at 2 St. Marks Rise Road in Wakulla County, near the Leon County line, resulting in a person being shot. The Leon County Sheriff’s Office received the 911 call, dispatched Leon County deputies to the scene, and notified the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office. The Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office dispatched Deputies to the scene, and subsequently dispatched Detectives and Crime Scene Technicians from the Criminal Investigations Division; and a Crime Scene Technician from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to the scene.
The investigation revealed that during the night of May 18, 2018, and the early morning hours of May 19, 2018, dozens of people participated in a social gathering in the woods. While there, Riley Attridge, 20 years of age, fired multiple rounds at Preston Gage Pitman, 22 years of age, with a handgun. Mr. Pitman was shot as a result and was later pronounced dead at the scene.
On May 19, 2018, Deputies interviewed multiple persons at the scene who witnessed the events leading up to the shooting, the shooting itself, and the events that transpired immediately following the shooting. Detectives subsequently conducted formal interviews of those witnesses, as well as Mr. Attridge at the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office Annex Building. On May 19, 2018, Detectives arrested Mr. Attridge for first degree murder and booked him into the Wakulla County Jail.
