WCSO CID Burglary Investigation Results In Several Arrests

Detectives of the Criminal Investigations Division (CID) at the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office (SO) have arrested six juveniles and Cameron Christian Abbott, 19 years of age, for a variety of burglary and larceny charges.  Detectives also arrested Matthew Steven Baggs, 49 years of age, for an out-of-county arrest warrant during a related search warrant execution.

Between March 22 - 30, 2020, two residential burglaries, eight vehicle burglaries, and related thefts were reported to the Wakulla County SO.  All of the burglaries/thefts occurred in the northern section of the Wakulla Gardens Subdivision, between Maido Street and Apache Road.  As a result of these burglaries, multiple bicycles, firearms, varying amounts of U.S. currency, a variety of electronics, sneakers, and other items were stolen.  The investigations were assigned to Detectives of the CID. 

Detectives conducted interviews of victims and witnesses, as well as conducted interrogations of suspects, and determined all of the crimes were committed by the same group of suspects, primarily juveniles.  From suspect interrogations, it was determined that although 10 burglaries had been reported, approximately 25 unlocked vehicles were actually entered by the thieves, from an estimated 300 vehicles they checked to determine whether or not they were locked.  During the investigations, probable cause was established to search the residence of a suspect for stolen property.  Detectives executed a search warrant at the residence on April 17, 2020, while wearing personal protective equipment because of the COVID-19 Pandemic.  When the search warrant was executed, Matthew Steven Baggs was found living in a backyard shed and was arrested after it was determined he had an active arrest warrant issued for him from Leon County.   

On April 17, 22, 23, and 24, 2020, CID Detectives arrested the following suspects for the following charges (only the adults’ names and photographs are posted):
