Reserve Sgt. David Pienta received national award

pienta award

Last month during WCSO's quarterly Employee of the Quarter Ceremony, Sheriff Miller had the honor of presenting Sgt. David Pienta with a certificate for Reserve Deputy of the Year Award from the National Sheriff's Association.

The Reserve Deputy of the Year award, as stated by the National Sheriff's Association, is presented to an individual who has made significant contributions as a reserve/auxiliary/volunteer officer for their agency. The National Sheriff's Association accepts and reviews hundreds of nominations annually, and this year selected Sgt. Pienta for the award.

Reserve Sgt. David Pienta has served with the WCSO Reserve Unit for almost 10 years. The WCSO Reserve Unit is an all-volunteer unit made up of men and women who give their time to serve our community free of charge. Sgt. Pienta routinely donates over 500 hours annually serving on the WCSO Reserve unit. This year Sgt. Pienta is on pace to surpass 800 hours volunteered, this is on top of working his full-time job outside of the Wakulla County Sheriff's Office.

In his career serving on the Reserve Unit Sgt. Pienta has taken it upon himself to use personal leave from his day job to attend various law enforcement training classes for the betterment of WCSO. Additionally, he voluntarily completed the field training process required of our road patrol deputies, working every weekend for 6 months in 2013, so that he could better assist WCSO. Sgt. Pienta has taken it upon himself to improve the training process for new members of the WCSO Reserve Unit and is also working to improve the unit in other ways.

Along with his service to the Wakulla County Sheriff's Office, Sgt. Pienta can also be found donating his time to many other community causes in Wakulla County. Sgt Pienta is an active member of the Rotary Club of Wakulla County, a 4-H instructor, and club leader, along with various other community causes and events at which he serves at.

Please Join Sheriff Miller and the Wakulla County Sheriff's Office in recognizing Sgt. David Pienta on his national award, and thanking him for his service to Wakulla County.
