Fire destroys home in Ochlockonee Bay

Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Wakulla Firefighters responded to a 2 p.m. Sunday, May 25 structure fire in Ochlockonee Bay.

Emergency personnel arrived on scene to observe a Wilderness Way home on pilings completely engulfed in flames. A small area of the woods on the north side of the residence was on fire as well.

There was nobody at the home at the time of the fire and investigators determined that the home was owned by William and Lea Manifold of Tallahassee. The home was rented by Michael Carter at the time of the fire but Carter did not respond to the scene until being notified by law enforcement.

The home and contents were a total loss. The home is valued at $250,000. The state Fire Marshal was called to the scene to determine the cause of the fire which remains undetermined. However, it does not appear to be suspicious. Lt. Mike Kemp, Deputy Gibby Gibson, Detective Richard Moon and CSI Rae Eddens investigated. There were no injuries.
