Upper Wakulla River Bridge opens

The Upper Wakulla River Bridge opened to traffic again Thursday, Oct. 3 as rehabilitation and repair work has been completed on the structure. The bridge connects Crawfordville to Wakulla Station on Shadeville Highway. (Highway 61 and Highway 365).

The bridge was closed after Labor Day and detours were necessary due to the deterioration of the bridge pilings and a replacement of the railings. The bridge was closed for 30 days.

County officials urge swimmers and those jumping from the bridge not to swim or jump around the structure. Rip-rap has been added to the pilings to provide additional support against erosion and the large rocks are visible under the water on sunny days. Do not jump off the bridge as an area that was once clear of rock may now contain rip-rap. The county public works department has also erected warning signs.
