|Wakulla Business Alert-Counterfeit Bills|
The Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office alerts local business owners to the potential passing of counterfeit currency.
In August, the WCSO investigated cases involving two suspects who passed three $50 bills that were originally $10 bills at Dollar General Stores in Crawfordville and Medart. The currency was bleached and altered to appear to be $50 bills.
Similar counterfeit cases have been reported in Liberty, Franklin and Calhoun counties and information collected during the investigation has been sent to the United States Secret Service office in Tallahassee.
Since the investigation began, the suspects have also attempted to pass bleached $5 bills as $100 bills in Liberty County and Leon County. Anyone who receives a counterfeit bill in Wakulla is asked to call the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office at (850) 745-7100 and request the Financial Crimes section of the Criminal Investigations Division.
