Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office transitions to the CodeRED mass notification system

The Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office has a new emergency and mass notification provider. The transition from DeltAlert to the industry-leading, high-speed mass notification system, CodeRED®, began earlier this year.

The transition to CodeRED will offer the Wakulla Sheriff’s Office access to patented technologies that were not available with the previous provider. Public safety officials at the sheriff’s office will be able to more effectively communicate time-sensitive messages using the CodeRED system’s robust dialing infrastructure that is entirely managed by its parent company, Emergency Communications Network. This access will allow calls to be delivered seconds after WCSO Emergency Management officials launch a message. Additionally, the county will have the ability to better target notifications geographically, only notifying those community members impacted by an alert.

Wakulla residents who registered with DeltAlert have been transferred to the new CodeRED system, however all residents of Wakulla County are encouraged to update their existing information and enroll additional contact information through the sheriff’s office enrollment page. To ensure you are included in the new CodeRED database, please visit the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office web site at www.wcso.org and click on the CodeRED logo. Residents are encouraged to enroll cell phone numbers, e-mail addresses and business contact information.

“We look forward to using the many new features we have with CodeRED, and are pleased that our contract was transitioned to a well-known and highly reputable mass notification provider that has been providing these services for well over a decade,” said Wakulla County Emergency Management Director Scott Nelson.

As a new notification feature, Wakulla County will also send alerts to subscribers of the CodeRED Mobile Alert app. The Mobile Alert app provides users geo-based public safety alerts that impact them at their current location. The app provides an additional method for the county to communicate messages to not only local residents, but also to those traveling through the area. “Once you download the free app, even if you travel to another CodeRED community, you will be notified of those alerts directly on your smartphone,” said Nelson. “This is a really useful and unique feature that we are excited to begin using in the near future.”
