Letter of Commendation issued to Detective Nick Boutwell

LETTER OF COMMENDATION
WCSO DETECTIVE NICK BOUTWELL
May 6, 2013

For outstanding police work and being aware and observant while on the road patrolling, Detective Nick Boutwell is to be commended for his outstanding service.
Detective Boutwell was patrolling the Wakulla Gardens area on May 1 when he observed a suspicious male teenager walking along the road. Detective Boutwell took the time and energy to investigate further.

The 17-year-old juvenile attempted to conceal himself from Detective Boutwell in a wooded area, but the detective did not give up when he lost sight of the teenager after returning to the original scene.

Detective Boutwell found the juvenile a second time and questioned him about his activities and discovered that the teenager was in possession of a key fob that belonged to a resident of the area. During the investigation, Detective Boutwell learned that the juvenile had just committed a vehicle burglary and also planned to return to steal the motor vehicle from the victim and drive it to another jurisdiction to purchase illegal narcotics.

Detective Boutwell’s quick thinking and fast action saved the female victim more pain and anguish and probably saved her vehicle from being damaged in the process. Detective Boutwell was performing duties connected to the Youth and Community Services Unit where he was able to use his keen alertness, diligence and investigative initiative.
