WCSO recognized for Risk Management improvements

Former Wakulla County Sheriff David Harvey presented current Sheriff Charlie Creel with a plaque Thursday, Feb. 28 recognizing the Wakulla Sheriff’s Office for “Outstanding Improvement in Fleet Safety and Loss Control.”

Harvey is now the Executive Director of the Florida Sheriffs Risk Management Fund which provides insurance coverage to sheriff’s offices throughout the state. The Wakulla Sheriff’s Office was recognized for risk management improvements during the budget year Oct. 1, 2011 to Sept. 30, 2012.

Image The sheriff’s office has made a marked effort to reduce crash incidents involving agency vehicles. Former Sheriff Harvey said Risk Management recognizes county agencies that don’t have any incidents, agencies that have no incidents where they are at fault and agencies that sharply reduce the number of insurance related incidents.
Sheriff Creel said the sheriff’s office will be putting many of the sworn staff through vehicle driver training in the coming months in an effort to reduce traffic crashes involving agency vehicles. Sheriff

Harvey agreed that the training is not only a good idea but will save taxpayer money by lowering insurance premiums while also saving deputy and citizen lives.
