WCSO, other agencies investigate suicide case, clear fireworks from scene

The Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office was joined in a joint investigation by the Big Bend Bomb Squad, Tallahassee Police Department, Leon County Sheriff’s Office, Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms during a Feb. 13 investigation into an apparent suicide, according to Sheriff Charlie Creel.

WCSO investigators discovered a 53-year-old Crawfordville man deceased at the Dan Miller Road home. However, there were no signs of foul play.
During the investigation, deputies discovered remnants of improperly stored fireworks and contacted the Big Bend Bomb Squad to make sure the scene was safe to continue investigating. The crew worked into the evening hours of Feb. 13 and completed their work on Thursday, Feb. 14 once they had daylight for better working conditions. Many of the items that were discovered were destroyed for safety purposes.

Law enforcement learned that the suicide victim was a hobbyist who enjoyed making homemade fireworks. No charges were filed and the man’s body was turned over to the Medical Examiner for an autopsy which determined that there were no signs of foul play.

WCSO was at the scene with the Wakulla EMS Unit and Wakulla County Firefighters in addition to the other law enforcement agencies.
