|WCSO wins speed measuring device at DOT meeting|
The Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office won a $4,000 Pro Laser speed measurement device as a door prize during a Department of Transportation (DOT) area law enforcement meeting held at Florida State University on Tuesday, Feb. 12.
The Kustom Signals, Inc. device measures speed by using laser light. It has pinpoint accuracy by spreading three feet at 1,000 feet of distance. The device can measure the speed and distance of a specific vehicle.
The law enforcement meetings with DOT are held quarterly and the various law enforcement agencies share turns hosting the meetings to discuss items of interest as well as statewide safety related competitions sponsored by DOT on a regular basis.
The WCSO has placed third and first in two recent law enforcement challenges. The challenges reflect improvement in highway safety within the community, improvement in specific safety issues, motorcycle safety and fighting drunk driving.
