WCSO Litter Control Unit collects more than 28,000 pounds

The Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office Litter Control Unit has collected more than 9,000 pounds of litter each month in 2013 and the total through March 31 was 28,210 pounds.

Image In January the crew collected 9,020 pounds followed by 9,755 in February and 9,455 pounds in March. The collections include the state roads and some county roads as well.

Since the state road contract was signed in January the build-up of litter on the state roads has decreased.

The Litter Control crews collect trash seven days a week and on holidays. The ability to pick-up trash is only influenced by manpower and bad weather. The Litter Control Unit collections do not include

the weekly beach and park trash runs which occur with a different crew.
