The Wakulla County Sheriff's Office lost a valuable member and friend, Detective John R. Schliep, Jr., Sunday morning, July 29, 2007, when he suffered a fatal stroke.
Detective Schliep began his law enforcement career in 1977 in Trenton, New Jersey as a Correction's Officer. Throughout the years his service and sacrifice continued as he worked as a Patrol Deputy and Investigator. Detective Schliep became a member of the Wakulla County Sheriff's Office on December 27, 2004.
Detective Schliep had a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice and had completed several classes toward his Master's Degree. During his career he received many awards and commendations within law enforcement, as well as in his private life for community service. Detective John Schliep was a gentleman and was named an Honorary Kentucky Colonel in 2000.
He is survived by his wife Nancy; a daughter Heather Mazeao and her husband Greg; 2 step-daughters, Hayley Prodenzano and her husband Scott and Erin Suber; a sister, Robin Stiener and her husband Charles; and his mother Rosina Schliep.
A memorial service will be held in his honor Friday, August 3, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. at Harvey-Young Funeral Home in Crawfordville, Florida.
