Alert*********Voluntary Evacuation of Ochlocknee River
***********ALERT************WAKULLA COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE SPECIAL BULLETIN**********
August 24, 2008 1700 hours
The Wakulla County Sheriff's Office, Division of Emergency Management in coordination with County Administration is issuing a voluntary evacuation of homes along the Ochlocknee River. The National Weather Service is projecting major flooding to record levels. Homes may be flooded or surrounded by water along the Ochlocknee River, this includes all interests along the river in Wakulla County.. Residents and interests along the river must take steps to protect property and are asked to evacuate. We would like to remind you to avoid driving through flood waters. A shelter is currently open at Forest Heights Baptist Church, 1200 West Tharpe Street in Tallahassee. If you have any questions or need assistance with evacuations, please contact the Wakulla County Sheriff's Office at 850.926.0800. This evacuation is anticipated to become a Mandatory Evacuation later in the day.
