Precautionary Boil Water Notice for City Water Customers in the Woodville Area Extended

Due to a water line break, the City of Tallahassee is issuing a precautionary boil water notice for customers in the Woodville area. This notice affects approximately 1700 City water customers. Water service has been restored to about 1100 customers in the Woodville area, and should be restored to the remaining 600 homes by noon today.

This notice applies to customers in the Woodville area south of Oak Ridge Road along Woodville Highway, including some customers in Wakulla County. Homes served by the City of St. Marks water system and customers north of Oak Ridge Road are not affected. The City is asking customers to take precautionary steps before preparing food or using water for drinking purposes.

To use water for cooking or drinking purposes, bring water to a boil. A rolling boil for one minute is sufficient to render the water safe for use. Be sure to let the water cool before using, or use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and preparing food until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water. Another advisory will be issued when the boil water notice is canceled.

The City's Water Utility apologizes to customers in this area for the inconvenience due to the service interruption. Due to several recent water line breaks in the area, the Water Utility is taking steps to upgrade the water line south of Woodville. The City's Water Quality Laboratory has collected samples in the area with results expected Friday morning.
